General

Are these camps restricted to a particular age group?

Tawheed Summer Camp caters for all age groups. However, the only restriction is that children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult who is a parent or guardian.

Is there gender segregation?

Yes. the girls’ village (Noor Village) is a completely secluded area containing the girls’ cabins. The girls’ sports area is also completely secluded including their own swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball and other playing fields, allowing privacy to play sports without hijab. In areas where both genders get together such as dining and prayers, both genders must practice modesty and dress modestly within Islamic prescriptions.

How do I register?

Once registration is opened, you can do the following:

You will need to enter your email address on the login page. If your email exists in our database, you will be asked to retrieve it using Forgot Password. Otherwise you will receive the email generated by our website to your email. Please make sure that you check your spam folder also and that you add our site to your safe list. If you still do not receive a password from our system, please let us know and we will send it to you manually.

Once you have logged into the My Account page, you can then click on Register for Camp link and enter your information. Upon successful submission, you will receive a confirmation email and you will see your registration on the My Account page. You can make the necessary changes if needed and it will update your records.

To add more family members using the same email address, simply click on Register Family for Camp on the My Account page and you can add as many members as you wish. Their information can also be edited by you if necessary.

How do I change my password?

Once you login to the My Account page, you will click on the link under Personal Info section. To change the password, you will need to enter your current password and then the new one. The change is immediate and after you logout, you will need to use the new password. An email will also be sent to confirm this change.


Fees & Transport

What are the bus timings and pickup location?

The Toronto Coach will leave from the following location and time:
Jaffari Community Center
9000 Bathurst, Richmond Hill, ON
Departure time will be 10AM sharp (You will be notified by email).
All passengers MUST arrive at this location by 9:30AM to be processed for loading. Please make sure you have all the necessary documents to cross the border.

The Detroit coach will leave from the following location and time:
Islamic Center of America
19500 Ford Road, Dearborn Michigan
Departure time will be 4:30 PM sharp.
All passengers MUST arrive at this location by 4:00PM to be processed for loading.

The airport shuttles will be scheduled per the arrival itinerary of the passengers.
We must receive your itinerary via email at tawheedcamp@gmail.com in order for us to schedule your pickup. The itinerary must have the airport, airline, arrival time and flight number in the email.

What are the fees for this year’s camps?

This year’s fees can be viewed on our Prices page.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept check, cash, bank draft, money orders and credit cards.

Do you give discount for early payment?

Yes. Our Early Bird Discount is 10% off if paid in full before March 15th and 5% off if paid in full before April 15th.

Do you have an airline agreement for discounts to Detroit airport and Flint?

Yes we do. We have an agreement with Delta Airlines for discounts upto 7% on the lowest fare. You will need to call them to reserve your flight since they do not have an online system to process this discount and they will not charge a fee for the reservation. You must call 1-800-328-1111 and give them the following codes depending on the camp you are registering for:

July 2nd camp: NM5LW

July 25th camp: NM5LX

What transportation methods are available?

We offer an airport shuttle from Detroit (approximately 1.5 hour drive to the camp) and Flint (approximately 30 minute drive to the camp) airports. There will also be a shuttle for the residents of Dearborn area and a coach for Toronto, Canada (at no charge for the first day of camp and the last day of camp).

What are the transportation fees?

Fees for the airport pickup and for the Dearborn shuttle and Toronto coaches are included in the camp registration fee. Those who are arriving on dates later than the start date of the camp or leaving earlier than the start date will need to let us know for special transport shuttle if necessary. There will be a nominal fee of $30 per trip.

Will there be any arrangements for airport pickup?

There will be complimentary airport shuttles available from Detroit (approximately 1.5 hour drive to the camp) and Flint (approximately 30 minute drive to the camp) airports on the first day of camp and the last day of camp. Immediately after booking your flight, you will need to email your itinerary to tawheedcamp@gmail.com, otherwise you will need to make alternate travel arrangements.

Are there any group discounts available?

Due to our subsidized nominal rates, we are unable to provide group discounts except under a per need basis.

I want to attend the camp but cannot afford it. Is there anything I can do?

Please contact us at tawheedcamp@gmail.com and we will arrange for you to pay in installments, according to your financial situation. If you are unable to pay the full amount, let us know and we will try to do our best to help in whatever manner we can. Otherwise, we will try to arrange for a sponsor.

Is the amount paid refundable?

Yes, provided the cancellation occurs at least 30 days prior to the commencement of the camp. After that period, we cannot refund except for a valid health reason. Please note that if you have paid in Canadian dollars using a credit card and a refund is issued, the credit card company will refund the amount based on the exchange rate of the day the refund was processed. This may be more or less than what you paid during registration and it is not in our control.

Can I sponsor a child to attend the camp?

We would love for you to do that. Any help is most appreciated especially since we are non-profit and your donation is tax-exempt. We never want to refuse anyone who wishes to attend and cannot afford because our goal is to provide opportunities and good support.

Can I donate to the camp?

Tawheed Institute is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Your generous support will ensure its continued progress and success. We also have permission to collect khums for the project.

Can I volunteer at the camp? If so, who can I contact?

There are many opportunities for volunteer work at our camp. When you register, you can select that and give us your preference for the kind of work you want to do.  We will inform you if we need your service in any particular area. Your help during the camp is always appreciated.

 

Facilities

Is there a phone available for use at the camp?

Yes, there is a landline available for use when necessary.

Will my cell phone work at the facility?

Cell phone reception is limited at the facility with most phone networks. However, Sprint and Verizon network coverage is present.

Is there internet access available?

Yes, there is a wireless access point available.

Will parents and guardians be able to interact with the campers during camp?

Yes.

Accommodations

How many people can the camp facility accommodate?

Currently Camp Taha can accommodate up to 350 people.

Can I choose to stay together with my friends?

We allow this in general if your age ranges are similar. We will be assigning the cabins based on many factors and there is no guarantee that you will be able to stay with your friends. Nonetheless, we encourage meeting new friends all the time. In fact, many close friendships develop as a result of the camp experience.

Are the showers and toilets in the cabins?

All our new cabins have showers and toilets in them. Most campers will be staying in the new cabins this year.

Does each camper get a bed or do we sleep in sleeping bags?

All campers will have a bed for themselves (each bed is a twin size). Campers have to bring their own bedsheets, pillow and coverings. Usually, having a sleeping bag with an attached pillow works best.

What should I bring with me to the camp?

You can download our items to bring list. Traveling light is recommended.

Additional items to consider:

Quarters for the laundry machine (Detergent can be bought at Welcome Center)
Tissue box
2 garbage bags for laundry
Bring money to register for Dearborn trip ($30) and extra spending money for shopping
One piece bathing suit for sisters- (No bikinis permitted)
Pad and pen
Proper attire for prayer (Brothers & Sisters)
Refillable water bottle

Can families stay together at the camp?

We have new log cabins allocated for families who wish to stay together. There is an additional fee for reserving a cabin. Rates are noted on our Prices page and our registration page automatically calculates the cost if you select to reserve the family cabin. Please note that this cost is charged once for the whole family and not charged per person. Only one parent should select to reserve a cabin during registration. Availability is on a first come first serve basis.

 

Programs

What kind of activities will you be running at this year’s camps?

Activities to promote public speaking, congregational prayers, Qur'an recitations, group bonfire discussions, participation in theatrical plays and lots of sports.

What sports activities/facilities are available?

Many sports activities are available, including basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, zipline, wall climbing, kayaking, swimming and tubing.

Do you have rules and restrictions for the camp?

Yes we do. You should download our regulations for your records and information.

 

 

Meals

How many meals will be served each day?

Three meals will be served daily. We will offer a variety of cooked meals to please various tastes. Our meals are generally organic and of course very halal and fresh.


Do you provide special meals if one has allergy to certain ingredients?

Yes. Please let us know what you need special and we will have our chefs prepare it for you. You will need to note this in your registration form.
